Are you missing the library during the COVID-19 shut down? Never fear, there’s a Little Free Library box nearby to satisfy all your book needs!

We were recently walking along the trail at Smith Creek Park in Wake forest and happened upon a brand new Little Free Library that had just been installed during the pandemic. Since we hadn’t been able to pick out new books from the library in months, the kids were so excited to browse through the shelf and pick out some new books! I was pleasantly surprised that there were also quite a few adult novels, which will be great for this mama on our visits to the beach!

In all of our excitement I realized that some people may not know about this awesome resource! This free book resource can come in extremely handy when Wake County Libraries are shut down or unavailable. It won’t replace the awesome library story time, but it will serve as an option to get new books!

The idea behind the Little Free Library is to drop off your gently used books as a donation to other families. In turn, you can grab some free books for yourself that have been donated by others! There’s no deadline to when you have to return your books. But in order to share the love and keep the good books rolling, we recommend bringing them back once you’re done.

How can I find a Little Free Library near me?

There are over 100,000 little free library boxes worldwide, but those that are registered can be found on the map. Keep in mind that not all boxes are registered so you may find some on your walks that aren’t listed on the website. Let us know in the comments if you have a favorite Little Free Library location!

How can I contribute?

You can contribute to this awesome free program by donating books to little free libraries near you! C’mon, I know you cleaned out those closets and shelves while in quarantine!

You can also create your own Little free library in your neighborhood! The website includes instructions on how to build your own box and install it. Keep in mind you may want to check with your HOA or neighborhood before installing one.
