North Hills Park playground was remodeled in November 2019 and we LOVE the new space! You can see the old playground here for a comparison, but this new spot is fresh and fun with brand new structures for the kids to explore!
Playground
North Hills Park has brand new climbing structures I haven’t seen at any other playground in the Raleigh area. My kids gravitated to these new features, like the climbing rope and TriRunner carousel. The climbing walls were new shapes that made it fresh and fun and added a new challenge to their play.
This Play On! playground was actually designed based on best practices in youth fitness. There are tons of opportunities for sliding, climbing, swinging, spinning, and balancing.
The playground has a mulch surface and is well shaded, although not fenced. The restrooms, parking lot, and picnic shelter are adjacent to the playground. We actually attended a birthday party here a few years ago before it was remodeled and it was a great spot for it!
Sandbox
There is a sandbox next to the playground with 3 diggers and a seesaw (or teeter totter, however you like to say it!). It’s a large sandbox like the one at Baileywick, so lots of space to spread out! This seesaw is better than most in that it has a mechanism in the middle that prevents you from dropping all the way to the ground if your partner hops off!
TriRunner Swings Carousel
The hottest attraction at North Hills Park is officially called a TriRunner. We just call it a swing carousel because it’s exactly like the large swings ride you see at the State Fair!
This ride takes parental power though, and you’ll be spending most of your time running in circles pushing your kids! The whole time I was thinking of the swings carousel at Angel Island Fun Park and how it is electrically powered. I wish this one could be as well, but it’s still a fun ride anyway! Mom even got in on the action and jumped on a for a few spins! Plus, with three kids, it was pretty much made for us! 😄
In addition to the TriRunner, there’s also another couple of spinning rides next to the picnic shelter. I liked the chair spinner with handles so much more than the bucket spinners you see at other playgrounds like Knightdale Station and Zebulon Community Park. The kids liked it since they stayed vertical instead of wobbling to one side, plus they had something to hold on to!
Baseball Fields and Tennis Courts
You will also find baseball fields and tennis courts within the park. It really is a great space conveniently located between North Hills and Crabtree Valley Mall. Definitely make a visit for some new excitement to your playground fun!
