If you’ve ever watched American Ninja Warrior then you will definitely want to visit Apex Community Park and try out their Elevate Fitness Obstacle course! The first of its kind in the country, you can step up your fitness and/or challenge your friends by going through this agility course that reminds me so much of the American Ninja Warrior challenge!
Elevate Fitness Obstacle Course
Unfortunately, when we visited the course was closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic so we didn’t actually get to try it out. But it looked just like a ninja warrior obstacle course! It started with the floating steps and has 11 obstacles in total. The course was designed for teens and above, but I know my kids would love playing and climbing on all of the equipment. The Apex Parks & Recreation Department uses the course to create wellness programs for all ages and abilities!
Playgrounds
Apex Community Park also has a couple playgrounds within the park. They were both closed while we were there, but the equipment looked new and in good condition.
I especially liked that the larger playground had ample shade and was entirely fenced in. Both playgrounds also had benches for parents.

Walk around Apex Lake
Apex Community Park has over 3 miles of developed nature and fitness trails surrounding Apex Lake. Off of the paved trail you will find a few undeveloped nature paths you can take for even more nature exploration!
I really enjoyed walking around the lake, and it reminded me a lot of Shelley Lake and Lake Lynn in North Raleigh! We saw ducks and enjoyed throwing rocks and sticks in the water.
Once you’re done exploring nature, make your way over to Waverly Place for some retail shopping exploration! If it’s a warm day you can enjoy the splash pad in the courtyard playground!
Lovely pics, Raleigh! Looks like a place where parents and kids can spend the day! Outdoor activity is so important for their overall development. It’s sad that some playgrounds are closed due to the pandemic.
All city owned playgrounds in Raleigh are now open!
It was so hard when they were closed, although we started hiking a lot more so I guess that was a bright spot!
