Breezy Pond Farm is a small, home-grown farm up in Louisburg. They have a variety of animals on their homestead and enjoy sharing them with the community through private tours. They’ve only been doing this a couple years, but have acquired quite the collection of animals that love interacting with people!
Upon arrival, you will see that the farm is on private property with a locked gate. The dogs should alert the owner that you are there for your tour, but if not, there’s a phone number you can call posted on the gate. However, if you’re like me, I was unable to call since I didn’t have any cell phone service out there! 😂 Since I didn’t trigger the dogs when I first pulled up, I just backed up and tried again and the dogs came running!
The owner, Maile, was a delightful tour guide, and she really made the tour in my opinion. She was calm, patient, and good with both kids and animals. She answered all of my silly questions and taught the kids how to feed and pet the animals safely.
My kids were a little skittish at first, so we started small and worked our way up to the larger animals. We were offered a bucket of corn to throw to the chickens and they all came swarming up to meet us. The sheep and goats liked eating crackers, and the mini-pigs liked apples. We also pet the horse and cows, and there were some full grown pigs we just watched from a distance.
Milkshake the Cow
**milkshake was adopted in 2021 and you can visit him at his Facebook page*
The highlight of my tour was meeting Milkshake, who I have dubbed the friendliest cow in the world. As soon as we walked up to greet him, he laid down like a dog to be petted. I fully expected him to roll over for a belly rub, but unfortunately he didn’t oblige. I don’t think I have ever seen a cow lay down before, but he just loved having everyone love on him! It was such a unique experience with such a sweet animal! They plan to have a baby calf soon, so if you go you will also be able to try your hand at bottle-feeding!
Breezy Pond Farm is obviously not comparable to the amusements of Hill Ridge Farms. But if you just want to get up close and personal with some farm animals then this is a great outing to do with the kids! I’d say it’s like NC State Farm Animal Days, but you get more interaction with the animals without the crowds!
Message them on Facebook to schedule your tour today! Cost is $10 per person but children aged 5 and under are free. Food is provided for you, or you can bring your own. Tours last about 45 minutes to an hour, but you won’t be rushed if you take longer.
