110 Maywood Avenue, Raleigh, NC
Caraleigh Park is one of the oldest parks I’ve come across in Raleigh and it is definitely in need of an update. However, it’s right down the road from Purr Cup Cat Café, so it’s convenient to let the kids burn a little energy before or after playing with the cats!
Metal Playground
Caraleigh Park is a very small park consisting of a basketball court and an old metal playground with a sand surface. The playground has seen better days and is in need of repairs. Unfortunately is has also been vandalized with graffiti. If you have a child that can read, be prepared for them to learn some colorful new words while you’re here!
The kids had fun in the giant sandbox, especially with the bouncers and diggers. However, the playground was very small and not easily accessible. Everything seems to be designed for taller kids as my 5 year old couldn’t reach the monkey bars. At 5’4″ I was barely even tall enough myself to hold her up to reach them! My two year old also had trouble climbing up the metal ladder, so it’s not very accessible.
In Need of Repairs
As you can see from the pictures below, Caraleigh Park is in need of repairs. The playground is starting to rust, there are holes that have been poorly patched, and the playground is not accessible. Hopefully we can get this on the City of Raleigh radar and it can be remade into a great spot for the surrounding neighborhood!
We didn’t play at Caraleigh Park long, but it was a quick pitstop if needed. Until this park is remodeled, you might be better off visiting nearby Dorothea Dix Park. Although it doesn’t have a playground built yet. John Chavis Park is also nearby and currently undergoing renovations, so it will be a great spot to visit once completed in Summer 2021!
