120 S Estes Dr, Chapel Hill, NC 27514
Chapel Hill Community Park is probably the largest park in Chapel Hill. After our visit to the Morehead Planetarium, we headed over to the park to burn off some energy outdoors! The rose garden wasn’t in bloom, but I bet this is a beautiful space in the Spring!
Playground
The playground is the older metal style structure and is in need of some paint. It’s a large structure though, with lots of different obstacles to explore. My kids enjoyed the low monkey bars and climbing ramps. The playground is not shaded or gated, but it has rubber surfacing to prevent injury. As for swings, they have a very popular tire swing, bucket swings, and regular swings. There’s also a separate smaller baby playground, which is great for the 2 and under crowd.
Next to the playground is a large open field. During our visit someone was flying their drone from there, but it would also be a good space to let the kids run around with a ball or frisbee.
Rose Garden
The Gene Strowd Rose Garden is located right next to the playground. We visited during the off season, but I’m sure this will be a beautiful space during the spring! There are rows of rose bushes and a gazebo with lots of benches. The fountain was a beautiful touch, although it was off while we were there in the winter.

Additional Amenities
In addition to the playground and rose garden, the park also has a picnic area with lots of tables right next to the outdoor basketball court and volleyball court. There are also a couple of walking trails available. Battle Branch Trail is a 1.5 Mile Natural Surface trail and the Bolin Creek Trail is a 1.5 Mile Paved trail.

Community Center and Restrooms
Unfortunately, the only restrooms at the park are inside the community center. During our visit the community center was closed so we could not access the restrooms. According to the park website, the community center should have been open while we were there, so I’m not sure if the hours are accurate or this was just a weird day.
Inside of the community center you will find an indoor pool, gym, and climbing wall. Outside there was a Little Free Library and a large Adirondack chair for a photo op.
While you’re in Chapel Hill, make sure to visit Kidzu Children’s Museum for some indoor exploration and fun!
