We attended the Electric Light Fantasy (E.L.F. for short) laser light show in Wilson last Saturday and it was such a unique and mesmerizing holiday event! They have more shows this weekend, but they sold out FAST. Due to the popularity of the event, they just added some more shows on December 10th. If you act fast, you can still get tickets for the 6pm, 8pm, or 9pm time slots!
What is the E.L.F laser light show?
So what exactly is a laser light show? The E.L.F. show features a full color RGB 30 Watt laser plus lots of smaller lasers that shine their beams through the sky and seem to “dance” to the music. Smoke is used to make the laser beams more visible in the night sky, and you also have the Whirligig Park in the background. All of the colors and shapes really makes the the whole experience a feast for the eyes!
Each 30 minute show functions a lot like a drive in movie. All cars are parked facing the lasers, and you will stay in your car and tune your radio station to hear the music. There are portapotties available in the event of an emergency, which is great for when you have kids! Some people even brought their dinner and had a picnic in the car while watching the show!
How’s the view from your car?
We let the kids get out of their car seats and sit on our lap in the front to have the best view. Halfway through the show we also rolled down the windows and let them hang out the sides. We were parked towards the back and had plenty of time to get them buckled back in their seats at the end of the show. Parking attendants release all of the cars in rows from the front, so you might not have time to do that if you are parked in the front.
How can I get tickets?
They are not selling tickets at the gate, so all tickets must be purchased online in advance. When you purchase your ticket you can add on a souvenir light-up cup, or you can buy one after the show at a table in the park. You can find more information about the event on the park website.
What else can we do in Wilson?
If you want to eat dinner while in Wilson, there were food trucks setup across the street from the park and there’s restaurants and a brewery nearby as well.
We made a whole day of it in Wilson and went to Imagination Station and BB&T Noah’s Arc Park before the show. Some of the stores downtown are also doing a fun elf scavenger hunt and special crafts for the kids during their Candyland Christmas celebration.
While wandering around downtown Wilson we browsed through a photography art museum and a few boutiques containing home décor and soap. We also made a pitstop at a local coffee shop for hot chocolate and we grabbed some treats at Krueger’s Candies. Don’t forget to swing by Goldsboro Street for a photo op in Santa’s Sleigh!
