Flour Power offers kids cooking classes to teach your child amazing cooking skills with an instructor to lead the way! My daughter and I signed up for a month of Flour Power Preschool Chef classes. We went to the North Hills location, but they also have a location in Falls River and in Cary. Each class has no more than 6 children and usually 2 instructors are present.
I was very impressed by the organization of these kids cooking classes. Everything is thought out well and it is ran very smoothly. The children (and my daughter is no exception) were always so excited to attend.
Each class starts with a small coloring page and some markers, so the kids have something to do while waiting on the rest of their class. They make and get to eat 2 items each class.
During my girl’s classes here she did things I would have never dreamed of having her try: cracking open an egg, using a cheese grater, and using a knife to spread ingredients. She has always liked to help in the kitchen and I now have a better understanding of what she is capable of doing.
Here is a description of the class:
One negative I need to mention is that the “rainbow of colors” mentioned in the class description was never brought up in the classes my daughter took. Many of the items were sweets, which was unfortunate because the classes are at dinner time. I do understand that vegetables are not all that fun to make or eat, especially for a kid, and they are trying to make the class a fun experience. It is possible that some healthier food was offered in the classes we didn’t take. If that is a concern for you, I recommend reading the class descriptions carefully. We just signed up for whatever days were most convenient for our schedule.
Class Info
You sign up for either a 4, 6, or 8 class session to be taken in a 5 month period, which is about $30-35 a class. Another drawback is that you have to sign up for a group of classes. I personally would love to see them offer single class options. Although it looks like they might do that periodically for special events and holidays. Check their class listings for more options!
Birthday Parties
Wouldn’t buying 1-2 cooking classes be a great birthday present? I know my children don’t need anymore toys! Speaking of birthdays, Flour Power does do birthday and special occasion parties, something I will be looking into in the future.

Pro’s:
- Very well run and very organized
- Lots of fun for the kiddos – my daughter likes this almost as much as her Art Class and she LOVES her art class so that’s saying something 🙂
- Teaches cooking skills in a relaxed and fun environment.
- Let’s your child enjoy cooking without messing up your kitchen.
Con’s:
- Does not emphasize healthy eating as much as I would like to see
- Pricing is inflexible, no ability to buy single sessions to try them out.
