On the first Saturday of every month, The Home Depot hosts a kids workshop where kids can develop hands-on skills by sanding, nailing, and painting their very own wood-working piece. Parents must stay on-site and assist their child with building their keepsake item, but it’s a great monthly, educational outing you won’t want to miss!
Collect Home Depot Workshop Pins
Children who participate receive a workshop apron and commemorative pins for each item they create. My girls have amassed quite the collection of pins from the workshops they attend every month!
Register In Advance
Due to limited workshop kits, you must register in advance in order to participate. Some Home Depot locations are more strict about this than others. The Capital Blvd location has let us participate without registering before, but other times has turned us away. Now I just play it safe and always register at least a day before the workshop.
Workshop Themes and Extension Activities
Workshops change each month, but usually correspond to upcoming holidays or seasons. We have built wooden reindeer and sleighs in December, hockey tables in January, wooden flowers for Mother’s Day in May, and mini-golf putting greens for father’s day in June.
Science Fair Central also has extension activities for each workshop, so you can extend the learning at home with STEM concepts. This is a great way to use your piece at home and learn something new in the process!
Hope Depot kids workshops have been added to our Raleigh Tot Spot calendar, so check it out to make sure you don’t miss a thing!
