Jack Smith Park is a recently opened playground and splash pad in Cary, NC.

SO, you may be wondering why there is a picture of a sheep…

That’s because the sheep sculptures are the best park of the playground! I was surprised that upon arrival my kids ran straight past the playground directly to those sheep! They entered a world of pretend play: feeding, washing and caring for the sheep, and of course riding them! I mean, the playground and spray ground at Jack Smith Park are very nice, but this open field with sheep was by far the favorite of the 5 kids in our group.

Playground

The playground is rubberized surface and the toddler section is covered by a shade canopy. I didn’t get a picture of the older kids playground but the equipment is very similar to that found at Waverly PlaceAbbotts Creek Park, and Leesville Park.

There’s an awesome climbing boulder if your kids loves to climb! Plus you’ll see some whirligig art throughout the park, which you can see more of at Wilson’s Whirligig Park!

Sprayground

Unfortunately I didn’t get a lot of pictures of the spray ground because it was so crowded! This place is hopping in the summer months. Unfortunately my kids didn’t love the crowds and stayed by my side most of the time. It was hard for them to even get in the water due to all of the people.

We went shortly after the sprayground’s grand opening and the sprayers were not working very well at all. It was barely even a trickle, although staff came shortly and had it all working by 11:30am. I guess all new things have to work out the kinks!

Heads up the splashpad area is blazingly hot with no shade. Definitely bring sunblock and hats!

There’s a bathroom area with a changing table and also a separate family bathroom. I did not go into the family bathroom but the women’s bathroom was a mess and out of tissue paper. Hopefully this is just another one of those kinks to work out.

I really shouldn’t complain too much because Jack Smith Park and sprayground is completely FREE to the public! I live in North Raleigh so it is about a 40 minute drive for me, but it’s worth it for a free splash pad. Millbrook Splash Pad and Wading Pool is closer to where we live, but you have to pay admission.

Park Hours

The sprayground runs from 10 am to 8 pm, and and the park is open dawn to dusk. Sprayground is scheduled to be open until from mid-May to mid-September. You can find more information at the park website and can check the status of the spray ground at https://games.townofcarync.gov/spraygrounds/displaystatus.php
