Kiwanis Park in Raleigh (not to be confused with Kiwanis Park in Wake Forest) was remodeled in November 2019 and then shut down in March 2020 like the rest of the world, so you may not have seen it yet! The construction included a new neighborhood center, picnic shelter, restrooms, dog park, basketball court, and playground.
Playground
The playground is the nice new style you will find at Abbott’s Creek and Carpenter Park in Cary. There’s a smaller area for the younger kids and a bigger area for the older kids. The wobbly bridge at the younger kids playground was something I hadn’t seen before! The area is partially shaded and has a rubberized surface.
The older kid’s playground was pretty tall. There are two separate towers to climb up into, which are connected by a rope bridge. My 4 year old climbed up the rope ladder to the tower without the slide, but then had trouble getting down. The only options to get down are the rope ladders or the wall with holes. From that high up, both were a little scary for my preschooler so I had to help her down.
However, the other tower has a traditional ladder and of course the slide, so it’s much easier to get down! If the rope bridge actually connected the two towers I think it would be a little better, but it’s located below them so you can’t use it to get across.
Picnic Shelter and Community Center
This park also has a newly built community center and picnic shelter. They are all within close proximity to the playground, so we’re adding this to our list of Birthday party spots!
This park is located in an up and coming area, so there’s a nice shopping center nearby. I was surprised at how much this area had changed compared to a few years ago! Definitely swing by and check out a new playground at Kiwanis Park in Raleigh!
