Mary Belle Pate Park, formerly known as Sierra Drive Park, was built and opened to the public in May 2019. It contains an amazing picnic shelter available for rent, basketball courts, and modern rubber-surface playground.
Small Neighborhood Park
Mary Belle Pate Park may be a small neighborhood park, but it packs a punch! We actually wandered over to this playground by accident after visiting a friend in Cary. After seeing how nice and new it was I was shocked that I had never heard of it before! If we lived closer, this park would be in my weekly rotation!
The playground is not gated and is close to a neighborhood street. There is a wide sidewalk between the playground and the road, but watch out if you have a runner!
There are also only a few parking spots available, but I saw lots of cars parking on the street. I try to avoid street parking with the kids if I can help it, so I was glad a few traditional parking spots were offered. However, they could fill up quickly.
As for the playground structure, the large net offers a great spot for climbing, but may be difficult for younger children. My 4 year old is really into climbing right now, so this was a great new spot to let her try out her skills!
Picnic Shelter
The playground has quite a few shade sails and the picnic shelter is literally right next to it, so there are lots of spots to get a reprieve from the sun. Since the shelter and restrooms are so close, this would be a great spot for an outdoor Birthday party!
