425 Nature Park Drive, Rolesville, NC
I have found my new favorite nature park! 🎉 Mill Bridge Nature Park is a small park that runs along Sanford Creek in Rolesville. It has a large open green space, a 200 seat amphitheater, and many fun spots to view and play in the water! The park also connects with the Wake Forest Greenway system and there are plans for it to connect to Main Street Park in the future.
Plenty of Parking
As you drive up to the park you will be greeted by a large parking lot with plenty of space. This is a welcome change from some of the other greenway entrances I’ve visited that never seem to have enough parking spots!
Lots of green space
You will also immediately see the open green space adjacent to the lot. There’s plenty of room to fly a kite, take a picnic, or throw a Frisbee!
Trails with views of the water
My favorite thing about Mill Bridge Nature Park is that the paved trails meander along the creek. You always hear the soothing sound of the water trickling over the rocks. The trail also frequently opens up to some great views of the water. We found some shallow areas that look perfect for the kids to play and get their feet wet. We definitely spend a lot of time here in the summer!
As we walked the trails I also noticed the lack of bikes. We have been doing a LOT of walking lately, and most of the Raleigh trails we’re been on are saturated with bikers. My kids haven’t quite learned the rules of the road and don’t always stay to the right, which can be nerve-wracking when there are a lot of bikers passing by. I really enjoyed that I didn’t have to worry about the kids getting ran over!
Waterfall
Our favorite spot to play is at this small waterfall when you walk left from the parking lot. It has the perfect wading pool for the kids, and in the summer you’ll see lots of kids splashing around!
Heads up though, we did see a black snake here one time. I think the kids scared it out of it’s hiding place so it took off when they disturbed it.
Old stone wall
At one point we saw this old stone wall, which I’m guessing was part of some kind of mill? I can’t find any historical information about the park. However, I’m guessing with a name like “Mill Bridge” there had to have been a mill here at some point.
It made me sad that there were no trespassing signs up as we approached the wall. It would have been the best place to swim, but unfortunately you are prohibited from entering. Luckily there are lots of other great spots in the park that are open to the public.
Music at Mill Bridge
Mill Bridge Nature Park also has a large amphitheater for events and concerts. On further research, they host concerts on the first Saturday of the month in the space during the summer called Music at Mill Bridge!
We will definitely be visiting this nature park again! It’s a great place to walk and explore and we even found 2 awesome geocaches there as well!
