The kids and I happened to be in the area so we swung by Morrisville Community Park to burn off a little energy. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it connects to the Hatcher Creek Greenway so we were able to take a little walk and play in the big baseball field! (Unfortunately the playground was closed while we were there due to COVID-19.)
Playground
Morrisville Community Park has a nice playground with a big dinosaur/dragon right at the center of it. I bet it would be a huge hit with some kids who love dinosaurs! The playground was pretty big compared to some others I’ve seen, so I think it would keep the kids entertained for a while.
I especially liked that there was a hut in the middle for parents to sit with some shaded picnic tables. It would also work great for a snack break!
The Trails
The greenway here is wide and paved (stroller-friendly) and runs next to a small creek. There was a map posted for easy reference. I quickly saw that we could take a loop past the baseball fields to get back to where we parked.
We were there on a weekday morning and only saw a few people walking. The trail didn’t seem to be inundated with bikers, which is a positive for us. No offense to bikers, my kids just haven’t learned trail etiquette yet and tend to get in the biker’s way. It’s better for everyone if we walk where there are limited bikers!
There were a few small areas where the creek opened up and you could play in the water, but nothing like the swimming hole at Mill Bridge Nature Park in Rolesville. It was cold so we didn’t actually get in the water, but it was pleasant to hear it nearby! We also found a geocache hidden in the area, so you can search for treasure while you’re there!
While you’re in the area you can also swing by Pump it Up Raleigh for lots of indoor bounce house fun! (They won’t open until phase 3).
