We’re over the moon to share our exclusive first look at Over the Moon – the new space themed indoor play place in Cary! 🚀 They are having their grand opening this Sunday, February 7th, and you won’t want to miss out on the fun! See below for all of the astronomical activities they have packed in their expansive play area (and we’ll be sure to include lots of space puns as well 🤣)!

An expanse of fun inside Over the Moon play space

Rocket ship

You can’t miss the giant rocket ship at the entrance of the play place! 🚀 The kids will head straight for it when you arrive, and there’s even some astronaut costumes available so they can really get into the part. Interestingly enough, the rocket ship was actually designed by Asheville Playgrounds, who are the same people that designed the Wendell Falls natural wooden playground.

The best part about the rocket is that it extends up into the ceiling and creates a little hidey-hole that’s the perfect size for kids. They’ll be so busy pretending they are blasting off into space that it will take a light-year to get them out of there!

Obstacle Course

My kids favorite activity was the obstacle course. We’ve been really into shows like American Ninja Warrior and Floor is Lava, so they were excited to try out their ninja skills and defy gravity on the various obstacles! The course was very similar to the Treerunner Junior Ropes Course, but you don’t have to deal with those pesky harnesses that always get stuck. My kids orbited through the course multiple times while we were there, and I loved that it had them using their balance and strengthening their muscles!

Climbing Wall

Another way to soar to new heights at Over the Moon is on their giant climbing wall. It was about the size of the wall at Greystone Recreation Center, but it has a nice mat at the bottom to catch your falling star if they slip. My older two girls have been obsessed with climbing lately, so I was happy to see them exploring safely!

Building and Climbing

The rocket ship and obstacle course may be the stars of the play space, but they won’t eclipse all of the other opportunities for your child to run, build, and climb! There’s a magnetic wall with lots of magnatiles, a fort building set, and a K’NEX ball roller coaster. I spoke with the owner, Benji, and his idea for the K’NEX contraption is to have it behind plexi-glass so little hands won’t destroy it, but it will still be interactive where you can place the balls and watch them roll. He plans to add to the set over time and have a large interactive display.

My kids also gravitated toward the climbing domes, scooters, and soft play area. I recommend you bring grippy socks when you visit because it was hard for my 3 year old to climb the domes in regular socks. Don’t worry if you forget them though, they will have some for sale in the café.

Separate Baby Play Area

If you have a baby under 2, you will love the separate baby play area setup in the front of the room. There are comfy chairs for the parents and a train table, soft play set, and a magnetic wall for the babies. The space is divided off from the rest of the room so you know your little one won’t get trampled by the older kids.

Snack Café

Similar to Little Doodles, Over the Moon also has a snack café where you can purchase coffee, snacks, and drinks. It’s not a full service bar like Bumble Brews, but it’s a lifesaver when your little one gets hangry! Because of the snack bar, we’re adding this to our list of restaurants with play spaces. You could easily bring a friend for coffee and let the kids run around while you chat!

Birthday Parties

Over the Moon has two large party rooms available for birthday parties and other private events. Their birthday party package information will go live this Sunday, so check their website for the details!

Admission

The Over the Moon website has all of the admission details. They will be open Sunday through Friday from 9am to 6:30pm, which is perfect for working parents!

You can currently join in on the limited admission open play times for $10/child, $8/sibling. Babies 1 and under are free. You must reserve your spot in advance and you will have 80 minutes to play in the space.

You can also choose to book your own 80 minute private playdate for $55 or $85, but those groups are limited to 10 people or less.

Keep in mind that socks are required while in the space (including parents), and I recommend grippy socks for the kids due to all of the climbing they will be doing. Masks are required for those 5 and up, and they will be limiting admission so you will need to book your spot in advance. Rest assured it’s one of the biggest indoor play spaces in the triangle, so there’s plenty of room to socially distance!
