We ended up driving right past R.S. Dunham Park in Cary the other day on our way to Notasium, and of course we had to stop and check out a new (to us) tot spot! It’s a small park, but it has a nice playground, spinning disc, seesaw, swings, toddler dinosaur structure, sand box, and basketball and tennis courts! Perfect for a quick place to play while you are out and about!
Playground
The playground has a mulch surface and is located right next to the restrooms and parking lot. This makes it easy for moms with strollers, as you won’t have to haul your kids far to play or take a bathroom break. It also appears to be fairly shaded from the nearby trees. There aren’t any sun shades over the playground, but I don’t think it would be too bad on a sunny day.
There’s also a seesaw (or teeter totter) and a spinning disc like the one you see at Joyner Park in Wake Forest, which I know the kids always love but the parents kind of hate. It takes a lot of parent power to push that crazy disc, and of course that’s all the kids want you to do!
Toddler Area
There’s a separate toddler area that has bucket swings, a sandbox with diggers, a couple bouncers, and a little dinosaur playground. Everything is low to the ground so I’d say this space is perfect for the 2 and under crowd.
The only downfall is that the playground is not fenced in and it is next to a busy road. However, there is an incline and a basic decorative fence, so that should keep most kids contained. Although if you have a runner, this may not be the park for you! Try our list of fully gated playgrounds around Raleigh instead.
Basketball and Tennis Courts
If you have an older child or husband that wants to play basketball or tennis, this is a great spot for them! The courts are first-come first-served, but you can check the park website for any scheduled events happening before you go.
R.S. Dunham park really has a lot of amenities in a small space. Go check it out and let us know what you think!
