As a music nerd, I was super excited when I heard about Sproutsongs baby and toddler music classes! I definitely wanted to instill the love of music in my kids at a young age. I grew up around music and I wanted that for them as well!

Sproutsongs classes pop up in buildings all over town, like churches and community centers. Look for the sign to know where to go!

We were able to attend a demo of Sproutsongs music Together classes and I absolutely loved it! The class is designed for children age birth through kindergarten and all ages come together in one class to learn from each other. Parents participate with their child to help them learn rhythm and intonation.

Circle Time

Class starts with a circle time where you go around and sing hello to each member of the class. After that, you’ll be singing “hello everybody, so glad to see you” for days! My kids loved being called out by name!

Teaching Rhythm and Meter

The Sproutsongs music class proceeds with singing new songs that teach rhythm and meter within music. I love that a few of the songs are in minor chords, which you don’t hear much in popular music today. I like exposing my kids to these different sounds so they can can develop well-rounded musical preferences.

Musical Instruments

The class is supplemented with egg shakers, scarves, and musical instruments like various drums and bells. The kids love making their own music and jam-out time was their favorite part of class! I love that they got an opportunity to put into practice all the rhythms we had worked on earlier!

Movement and Dance

Movement is also incorporated into each song. Your kid will be up and hopping, shaking, and dancing to the music! We had a whole song dedicated to dancing freely with the scarf and my kids showed me some moves I’d never seen before! I love any kids activity that encourages exercise!

Intonation

Intonation is another important topic taught in each Sproutsongs class. We practiced using our high voices, low voices, loud voices, and soft voices. Not only is this important to help you sing in tune, but we also use it in the language we speak every day. I love that this class gives intentional time to practicing something that is so often overlooked in our day to day.

Everyone got a chance to play the guitar at the end of class!

Registering for a Class

Sproutsongs classes work similarly to other weekly classes in that they have a fall, winter, and summer series. Classes meet weekly for about 45 minutes over a 10 week session. After you register, you will get a CD of the music played in class, an MP3 downloadable version of the songs, a Songbook, a new family music development booklet, a growth chart, and access to the Music Together Family Music Zone and free Hello Everybody app! You can find pricing and more information at their website. They offer sibling discounts, and they even have an infant class, which is perfect for those new babies and moms who want to get out of the house!
