Optimist Park is right next door to the indoor Optimist Pool, where we tried out the parks and rec swim lessons. The playground was remodeled a few years ago into our favorite rubberized surface and modern play equipment!
Some of these pictures are mine, and some are from the Raleigh Parks and Rec website. Today was a busy day at Optimist so it was difficult to take pictures! If you like this style of play equipment, you will find similar structures at Forest Ridge Park and Rolesville Main Street Park.
For those of you with smaller tots who LOVE to swing, Optimist park has two of the mommy and me swings. Knightdale Station and Wendell Park also have these swings, and I know they are popular!
This playground is mostly a rubberized surface with some mulch areas around the perimeter. I’m not sure that this would be a great place for younger babies (except for the swings, of course) or older children, but for preschoolers and early elementary this park is a perfect fit.
There are cute, nature play structures that my 4 year old really enjoyed. If you do take a younger toddler, they will love this peek-a-boo log, as well as the swings.
My son loves these artificial rocks and spent most of his time climbing this one. This pic is also mine, frantically snapped between my 4 year old’s rock climbs!
Bathrooms are available in the community center, when it is open, but there’s no changing table. The bathrooms weren’t the best, but adequate for our needs.
The Optimist Park playground is relatively small. There are several picnic tables in nearby tree area. There’s also a good mix of sun and shade here. There are walking trails nearby if you want to take a stroll. Overall it’s a great playground, and worth checking out when you are in the area!
