This little park is the 3rd park I’ve reviewed in Cary. If you are in the area, you may want to check out Waverly Place and Jack Smith Park as well.
I live about 30 minutes away from Cary so it is not often that we are out that way. But on labor day The Carying Place was hosting a 5K/10K run. I married into a family of avid runners, so we went to check it out and then, of course, check out a playground.
Walnut street park has walking/biking paths, open fields and a playground with a rubberized surface.
The walking paths are really nice and we spent some time just going for a stroll on a beautiful day.
The toddler area has some shade from the trees and a sun shade. It includes a large sand play area with 2 diggers and 2 infant swings. There are also belt swings available. This park has bathrooms that are, eh – adequate. no changing tables available.
What I really liked about the toddler play area is the climbing wall. It’s set at about 45 degrees so it’s not too steep for my 2 year old to climb.
The older children’s section involves a lot climbing that neither of my kids were too interested in. Which is unusual for my 3.5 year old daughter, but she was busy at a shaded picnic table coloring.
This park has a TON of benches. Seriously, more that I have ever seen. It also has 2 shaded picnic tables, one in the toddler playground and one in the older kids section. The 2 sections are a little separated and it may be a little challenging to watch kids going in opposite directions.
Bottom line?
If you are in Cary or going to Cary anyway, this is a really neat park to enjoy a nice walk in or play in an open field. Stop by the playground and let the kids use up some of their almost endless energy supply.
However, this park is probably not worth too long of a drive.
