Here’s a great park for those located in Eastern Wake County! The Wendell Park playground was rebuilt a few years ago to be a nice, modern playground with lots of amenities. Last year they also added some shade sails to make it better in the summer.
The playground area is pretty big and has a mulch surface. It has a separate smaller playground for the younger kids. It also has the mommy and me swing that everyone loves!
Remnants of the former playground are still standing, which provides more swings and an additional metal slide. My 2 year old actually likes the old slide better since it isn’t as steep or fast. It works out great that he spends more time in that area so he doesn’t get trampled by the older kids.
The Wendell Community center is located within the park, and they offer fun family events throughout the year inside their gymnasium. Our favorite includes Princesses in the Park in February and the Wendell Treat Trail in October.
There is a separate restroom facility adjacent to the playground, and there’s a dog park and walking trail if you want to get more active. There’s also baseball fields and tennis courts that are probably used for parks and rec sports.
While you’re out that way, be sure to stop by the East Wake Education Foundation for inside learning fun during the week! For another Eastern Wake Park, try Knightdale Station park and splash pad!
